Some ideas and examples of good practice for LGB populations
One of the things that is often a challenge is how to get messages across to lesbians, gay men and bisexuals. The resources on this part of the website are all available on the web and just give some some examples of doing things a little differently. If you want to use a resource or adapt it, please get in touch with the organisation responsible and have a chat, many will happily share the original with you so it can be adapted to local services. So here are some things that caught my eye:
Bolton PCT developed a fantastic resource for Lesbians around smear tests and is certainly worth a look. http://www.bolton.nhs.uk/publications/patient_info/Lesbian%20Smear%20Guide.pdf
Here's a leaflet produced by ILGA for women who love women on breast and cervical cancer: http://www.ilga.org/news-upload/BreastBrochureENFinal.pdf
GayCity is an organisation in Seattle who never fail to produce exciting and different health promotion material and is definitely worth a look for inspiration. www.gaycity.org (head for media and the poster gallery)
We'd be shot if we didn't flag up some of our home grown talent. GMFA (www.gmfa.org.uk ) are currently rebuilding their site but you can find much of their work and the work of the Terrence Higgins Trust (www.tht.org.uk) at http://www.metromate.org.uk/
Work across the UK has illustrated that gay men and lesbians are more likely to smoke than straight people but there are still limited resources available to give LGBT people the facts. The American Cancer Society produced a range of leaflets specifically for lesbians and gay men and are definately worth a look:
