Medical Care Treatment
The breakthroughs in modern medicine have been nothing short of astounding over the last century or so, even the last decade, so why is it, with all of the millions of dollars of research conducted every year, the new drugs appearing on the market daily and all of this “healthy living” advice which is thrust at us in all directions, OK, we are living longer than ever, but there are still some killer diseases which catch up with us, very often before our natural time ought to be up.
Some of these problems can strikes at any time, to men and women, to the rich and the poor, to the old and the young, but some problems are generally more likely to happen to men, and some to women – you see, we are similar, but we are certainly not all the same. Sure we share common ailments where our vision is going bad and we need new contact lens or we need to practice better dental care. And we know there are many only resources from WebMD to Wikipedia.
Let’s take a look at some of the main medical problems happening to men and to women as they get older.
Men’s Common Health Issues
- Cardiovascular disease is the biggest killer among both men and women (although it generally gets to the men while they are a little younger). Commonly known as “hardening of the arteries” this really can be controlled by diet. Cholesterol plaque builds up inside the arteries and eventually a piece breaks off, causes a blood clot which blocks the artery resulting in a heart attack or stroke.
- Cancer – the big “C” which strikes fear into the hearts of everyone. The three most common cancers in men are lung cancer – stop smoking – NOW. Prostate cancer – whilst 200,000 men develop prostate cancer in the US every year, only one in 35 will die from it – fortunately, the majority of men are often fiddling about in their nether regions anyway, so if you feel a suspicious lump get it checked out immediately. Skin cancer is also very prominent so stay out of the sun or use plenty of sunscreen.
- Sexual Health – erectile dysfunction. You might be surprised to learn that 39% of men have problems with erectile dysfunction by the time they get to 40, did you know that? Well, not many men like to talk about it, but it is a common problem and there are ways to give it a helping hand – saucy!
- Diabetes – the silent killer. Obesity can lead to diabetes which can lead to death! If you’re always thirsty and can’t stop urinating all the time (sound familiar?) then you should definitely get your blood sugar levels checked out, lose weight and improve your diet.
- Depression – yes, we’re not talking being in a bit of a bad mood (that’s normal in our house) but men are at real risk of depression and suicide. Whereas it’s often been presumed that depression is mainly a women’s problem, it’s probably just because men try to hide their symptoms more.
Women’s Common Health Issues
Apart from “most of the above”, women also have a few other potential health issues to contend with, mostly because they’re the ones who have the babies:
- Menopause – I know that it comes later in life, but many women manage quite well through puberty and adolescence, even pregnancy is often dealt with and forgotten (it’s all worthwhile if you end up with a healthy baby after all), but the menopause is where the trouble really starts for many women, and the rest of the household. It affects every woman differently, but it does affect every woman! Whether it’s night sweats, headaches, lack of confidence, irritability (it’s not me, it’s everybody else) some people really do suffer for years. Fortunately hormone replacement therapy is available, as well as some very effective herbal remedies.
- Osteoporosis – is a very common for post menopausal women. This serious condition of thinning bones can lead to pain and fractures – have you ever noticed how old ladies can break their hip by a seemingly harmless fall? This can be prevented by taking extra calcium, vitamin D and regular exercise.
Medical Care Treatment – The Common Denominator
OK, so what’s the one common denominator for many of these problems – hey, this is supposed to be medicine, not math – I know, but there’s one really great way to reduce the risk of many of these problems – you’ve probably heard it all before, a million zillion times but it really does work.
Improve your diet – Lose weight – Increase your amount of daily exercise – there, you’ve heard it again!
Need to start slowly, then lower your stress – go to Amazon and buy a Kindle ebook – Go for a walk – Do something.
If your health is declining it is a good idea to buy burial insurance.
